My cupcakes looked like deflated cornbread muffins and my frosting was lumpy! I tried though. I've tried to make cupcakes a couple of times now. I have the KitchenAid mixer, the silicon kitchenAid muffin pan, the finest ingredients (we have the finest sugar ever--hee hee), a chef for a husband, and yet my cupcakes are less than spectacular(waaayyy less than spectacular)....sigh. Well the rest of Halloween was fun, and yes my cupcakes didn't taste horrendous, and Hazel was DYING to try them...so I felt better.
Anyone who knows Hazel Rei knows she LOVES the movie Annie. She has been a huge fan for awhile now. She can sit and watch the entire movie, she laughs, she sings...she is in love with Annie. So it was pretty easy to pick out her costume this year. We enlisted the talents of her wonderful, beautiful, lovely Abuelita who took my pathetic measurements over the phone and transformed them into a beautiful Annie dress. Pfft with the store bought costumes haphazardly sown together with poor fabric...Abuelita's dress was sown beautifully and made with love!!!
Our plan was to stay home, make a yummy meal, carve pumpkins, and hand out candy. That morning I discovered that our local squirrel had eaten oh about 3/4 of each of our 3 pumpkins given to us by Ney Ney & Gramps Bill that were grown near their property in upstate NY...I was angry!!! Also Hazel was invited by her friends next door to go trick or treating with them. So with carving pumpkins out of the question we decided to go for a bit. Hazel loved it!!!! She carried her pumpkin loot bag (calling it her "purse") around running from house to house with her friends. It was hard to keep up with them....seriously! Jade (aka Sandy) had fun watching the kids run around as she was carried by Daddy (aka Daddy Warbucks)...and I walked down the streets in my 2 1/2 inch heels..dying by the end of it...getting totally into character as Miss Hannigan. We had a blast, ended our evening by handing out candy to a wopping 3 trick or treaters (leaving us with a TON of candy left over) and by eating Halloween hamburgers! Having kids really makes you appreciate how they love things like Halloween and how innocent it really is...it's cool costumes, friends, and candy and how they will have awesome memories!!!
Here we are: Joe (Daddy Warbucks), Me (Miss Hannigan), Hazel (Annie), and Jade (Sandy)....
